2005 Accomplishments
- Joint Pediatric Genetics Residency/Fellowship combining the University of Miami's Medical Genetics Center with Miami Children's Hospital clinical experience and patient population.
- The Third Annual South Florida Genetic Testing and Education Fair, which tested a record number of people in the Tri-County area. In the three years of testing, over 300 people from all backgrounds have resulted in an extraordinary 20% detection rate for at least one of six children's fatal genetic diseases.
- The MFRF Neurogenetics Data Registry to track clinical research patients at Miami Children's Hospital Brain Institute.
- The State Center for Rare and Genetic Neurological Diseases (CRGND) in cooperation with Florida Atlantic University.
- Further advancement of the National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases Association (NRSAD) Research Initiative. Exceeding $500,000 of funding by the network organizations plus over $1 million of federal funding with promising progress with Gene Therapy, Stem Cells, Small Molecules, Diagnostics and Drug Exploration.
- Ongoing Sponsorship of the NTSAD Annual Medical and Scientific Workshop, specifically for families, scientists and medical professionals.
- Pediatric and Genetic Nursing Scholarships at Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University and Florida Atlantic University.
