Research + Education
2003 Accomplishments
- Pioneered the historic South Florida Genetic Testing Fair which provided education and testing to 90 people for a variety of genetic diseases. Teamed with Genzyme Therapeutics and Genetics, Ruth Rales Jewish Family Services, and West Boca Medical Center.
- Sponsored nursing scholarships through Florida Atlantic University to promote concentrations on pediatrics and genetics.
- Supported the successful National Rare Diseases Act Legislation, doubling federal funding for research and development, through continued work with Congressman Mark Foley of Florida.
- Health & Wellness Expo Exhibitor (held by the Levis Jewish Community Center and West Boca Medical Center) for the third year continuing education efforts in Palm Beach County, Florida.
- Chairs and co-funds NTSAD Research Initiative, raising over $300,000 and issuing six grants to major research institutions to investigate a variety of potential therapies including stem cells, gene therapy, substrate inhibitors and anti-inflammatories. Link to www.ntsad.com for more details.
